Ananno Chowdhury, a student of Pakerhat Government Primary School

I am Ananno Chowdhury. In 2015–16 I studied in Class 4 and Class 5 at Pakerhat Government Primary School, a century-old government school founded in 1920, and I passed the PSC examination in 2016 from here.

My days at the school

I studied here in Class 4 and Class 5, in 2015 and 2016, and my primary years ended with the PSC examination, which I passed in 2016. It was in these two years that I stopped being only a classroom student: I began to compete, to win, and to find out what I could do.

With my teachers

Head teacher Md. Uttam Islam taught us Bangla, and one of our ma’ams also taught Bangla. Kamini Roy, our English teacher, was strict by nature but extremely talented, and it was his teaching that made English finally make sense to me. Our maths teacher was a very good teacher and was friendly with me. Another ma’am taught us Bangladesh and Global Studies; she was a very good teacher and a relative of mine.

Memorable experiences

At a Union Parishad programme, I took part in a campaign on hand-washing awareness. There I won first place.

Back at school there were a biscuit race and a maths race, and I came first in both. The maths race was the most fun: a maths problem waited on a table, and we had to run to the table, solve it, fold the paper, run back and hand it to the teacher.

After that, I represented my school at Pakerhat Boro Maath, the big field of Pakerhat, known on maps as Pakerhat Zia Maath. I won first place again. View Pakerhat Zia Maath on Google Maps ↗

Next came the upazila level. Representing both my school and Pakerhat, I went to the field of the Pilot School in Khansama and won first place there as well. View the Khansama Pilot School field on Google Maps ↗

The next round was the district level, held at the Dinajpur Boro Maath. I was supposed to go there, but in the end I could not. View Dinajpur Boro Maath on Google Maps ↗

With my friends

Kousik, Rayhan, Fahim, Rakib, Muhaiminul, Rima, Sima, Habiba, Jinia, Mim and many others made these two years special: studying and playing together.

What I learned

I began learning English properly under Kamini sir. Before that I never thought about grammar, but his teaching made it click. Maths started to make sense to me here too. Above all, this school is where I became creative.
